| I always thought it must be so frustrating to get a 4'th place in a challenge. I must say it is not, I am happy with the result, I made a new personal best, and I got 44 comments so far, 35 during challenge. Wow. I whasn't even about to enter anything, I had a rough week during the submission week, my hard drive crashed and and I lost about 2 months of my work that I didn't have backed up. The picture whas taken in the last day of submission, and during that day I also took my free study pic, wich is not doing too bad also. The person in the picture is unknown the photo is candid but, there is a story behind the image. I'm not going to make you all sad now with details, but in short right now in my country with the economical situation that is worse then ever, old people suffer the most. Some of them are lucky to have kids and relatives who are doing better and take care of them, like my 2 grandmothers still alive, but the majority are alone and the money they get after an entire life of work isn't enough for them to pay half theyr bills. So there is this open market where they go out and sell all sorts of meningless things, screws, nuts, bolts, tools, books, old clothes, everything they don't use anymore just to make a few extra money. The man in the image is one of them. It's heartbreaking really, it's too easy to get expresivity in such a place I know, and I also sometimes feel like I take advantage. But the thing I like to belive I am doing is tell theyr story to the world, I'm not verry good with words especially in english but I tell it through images. Probably this doesn't help theyr situation too much but maybe one day when this will all be gone they will make a good documentary when people will talk about how it whas when our country whas passing this tough period. I don't know. Anyways to me as a photographer theyr sorrow and pain is that thing I can never pass by without shooting. Thank you verry much all of you who commented and connected to the image. Oh and ofcourse I bought what he was selling and told him to keep it for me until I look around then forgot to come back for it. :) |
