I just recieved an email from picture.com, it said they loved my photo, and asked if I would be interested in having it displayed in washington dc or somthing like that. They also said I won an award, blah, blah, blah... Then they wanted me to send them $169.00 for shipping of my "awards" and to help cover the cost of the submission of my photo. Smells like a scam to me, anybody had any experince with this.
Here is the picture.

The fact that scammers are able to convince some people to pay for the display of their own photographs sure says a lot about the industry!

You WON!..send $..THAT IS DEFINITELY A SCAM...or a really bad win (how much if you lose?).
Nice shot though. |

Not sure if it's the same one, but a about a year ago, I got the same thing, only it was to "come" to DC for a weekend conference and photo contest. Actually, I don't think it was a bad deal. It included meals and hotel, etc. But, mainly I think they just try to get you to buy their books. (If it's the same people). |

I got that too...there was no way I was paying that money for an award. Any award you have to pay for isn't really an award. I looked at the photos they said won too and most were pictures of the supposed awards and really bad photos...I got mine printed in one of there books and never went back. There thing is EVERYONE is a winner and can get in the books but you only win the award if you pay for it.

I've ignored them for two years and they've come back to invite me to the next conference for the same photo.

As is Poetry.com or international library of poetry...this is a sister company of picture.com
windpub.com
Column on the left you can see all the affiliates (AKAs) of these people and read some interesting stuff here.
ED: Note that freephotocontest.com and photomuseum.com are owned by the picture.com people (per the winds publication site above)

Any reward that requires you to pay money...... is not a reward. |

Hey I just got one too :-) Me and my (tongue-in-cheek) 'artistic accomplishments' can be honoured at the International Convention and Symposium ......just have to send a few $$$$ and I'll get my Silver Award Bowel .......um I mean Bowl!!!!
They've extended the time, just for me cos I didn't reply the last 2 or 15 times. Think I might have to miss out on this Golden Hopportunity again!!!! LOL

Count me in the group who received the same e-mail. We must all have received the bulk e-mail at the same time! So, what other scams are out there that we should all be aware of???
Also, and this does not involve money one way or the other, kodak.com is not a scam. If all you're looking for is 24 hrs. of fame and no fortune, enter your best shot on the website.
If one of your photos is selected, not only is it picture of the day on their website, but it is displayed boldly on New York Times Square for 24 hours. It is an awesome thing to see. Pure fun! |

Something like this happened to me about a year ago..but the email and postal mail said I had been selected to have my photo in a hard cover book..but to appear in the book, I had to pay $79.00 for each book I wanted to purchase. Not for me!

I was wondering when another Picture.com thread was gonna surface :-) It's been at least a month or so. But, yes picture.com is a total ripoff.
Also, //www.cutestpetcontest.com/ is a complete rip-off and uses the same "scam".
