Us Kiwis, Aussies, and the Turkish celbrated ANZAC day today... (Sorry if I missed anyone)
I've only been through the Dawn parade photos so far, which were a challenge in High-ISO shooting with good nerves required as I didn't want to use flash.
These were taken at Burnham military camp gates, at 06:30am, or there abouts (times in the shots...). Burnham is home to the 3rd land force group of the New Zealand Army.
We had some amazing storms on Saturday, and rain all day Sunday. No surprise that it was bitterly cold this morning. I was wearing about 5 layers, and my hands were stiff from the cold after 2 hours in on and off drizzle, and a bit of heavy rain thrown in for good measure.
I didn't get many useable photos, but it was well worth getting up at 5am. The only down side was that I nearly crapped myself when the 25 pounder was fired during the service about 100m from the gates!
Well over 1000 braved the elements, which is a healthy sign for our community, that we still hold a special place for those who gave so much.
Comments, and your own ANZAC photos welcome, if you braved the cold!
