"This is ... well, it really isn't very good at all, I'm afriad. The colours are washed out, considerably over-exposed. The organisation of the elements of the photograph is non-existent, there's such a visual confusion of so many subjects. You lighting, being from almost exactly the same direction as your point of view, hasn't even added any sense of depth and texture to those elements, making the image flat and uninteresting to the eye. The only saving grace is that the detail is good." 10th comment, 1st challenge.

BASHING to a Newbie. Tone of comment(This is ... well, it really isn't very good at all, I'm afriad.)?
HMMM
There are just much nicer ways of saying things. Even if the continued rant had 50% merit, it was lost on the entry statement.

To have said "By adding an alternative light source..." or "changing the direction of your light source" would be helpful and appreciated. BUT, THANK GOD, THE DETAIL WAS GOOD.

I lost no sleep...texttexttexttexttexttext

yep. if i can vote, i can comment. Qualification is a wierd thing. I mean, everyone can comment on what they like/dislike about a picture, afterall it is based on their opinion. Commenting on the technical side of things might not be eeryone's forte/exterise but I'm sure there are other ares where folks should feel comfortabel throwing in their 2 cents.

"If a ain't got somethin' nice (or constructive) to say, shut your "da.." mouth." Grandma. She also said that you could say someone was a piece of "sh.." to their face and get away with it, if you said it constructively.

Realizing that not everyone knows how (or enough) to constructively comment, but that they still feel obligated to comment, is important as a reciever of those comments. The first comments I left, left something to be desired... [or maybe some people would prefer I went back to that(lol)]... who knows.

What it comes down to, is that we all share a love of photography, and we should try to be supportive in our comments, positive or negative. I recently posted a shot in my first challenge and my first comment was from someone who basically made fun of my shot, then they turned around and gave helpful advice. All this was fine, but they hid their identity. I think that if you say something bad enough to have to hide who you are, you shouldn't say it at all.

That was probably me. Hmmm, looking at your profile - you have never entered any challenges. Sup with that?

Well, I do like an honest man! I don't know why it says I haven't posted. It was my first attempt, and I totally screwed up w/ the sizing. I do appreciate all the comments that told me exactly how much I screwed up. Next time, be a man, if you're gonna tell me how bad I suck, at least let me know who you are :)!

The identity is only hidden during voting and that is necessary for people like me who leave sarcastic comments because it gives the recipient a chance to cool down before they pounce on you. ;-)
