I'm impressed. I couldn't even fool it with slightly obscure feminine references:
Originally posted by MyGenderTextEntry: I like flowers and long walks on the beach. I also like romantic dinners and snuggling in front of a cozy fireplace. Do you think these jeans make me look fat? I get so sad when I see a dead animal on the road. I always stop and see if it's ok and if it is still alive I bring it home and nurse it back to health and release it back into the wild. Horses are my favorite animal and pink is my favorite color. I have a pink horse named Mr. Snuggles. My favorite thing to do though is scrapbooking. Well, and quilt-making. |

It's biased, as...
Words: 61
(NOTE: The genie works best on texts of more than 500 words.)
Female Score: 21
Male Score: 91
The Gender Genie thinks the author of this passage is: male!
And the text used was:
Original: Inspired by an article in The New York Times Magazine, the Gender Genie uses a simplified version of an algorithm developed by Moshe Koppel, Bar-Ilan University in Israel, and Shlomo Argamon, Illinois Institute of Technology, to predict the gender of an author. Read more at nature.com. Simply type or paste your text in the box below. Click submit for the results.
Which was: The text on the gender genie webpage, which is now obvious that it was written by a male, and as we know, males are not capable of making non-biased judgments.
[ edit ] Duh...now that I read the text inputted, it did say the authors of the webpage were males. Darn, no need to input it at all.

I pasted in 5 texts written for different classes that were all more then 500 words, some were at about 1500 words. Genie got me male everytime =).
Tried a poem of 176 words. As fiction or nonfiction, it is female. But as blog, it is male. Hmmmmm...

| I tried it with four pieces of fiction and two blog entries... it thought I was male 4 to 2, which I find pretty silly, since I write in a female fashion and I'm good at telling (in general) male authors from female. But, if you look at the key words, "the" earns you man points and anything relating to yourself ups your lady score - so I guess females are supposed to talk about themselves almost exclusively (not to mention use "like" frequently - we are valley girls, y'know), and only men know how to string sentences together. ;) |
