How are you running it into your computer? What are your tech specs (GPU etc.)? THe info you provided is a little vague.

well....I don't know tech specs....I have a Sony Vaio and it has a USB on the front as well as RCA jacks....video in...audio in...etc. I thought I could just the dvd thru the video in and then be able to capture the video thru movie maker...but it won't let me....it is XP home edition....that's all I know...sorry I can't give you more details...

There will probably be some kind of protection which stops the DVD (disc not player) playing through an external source. For eg I cannot run my DVD straight through my AV reciever as it seems to think I am trying to copy discs. The easiest way to capture is get a DVD Rom and play them fromt he computer. Not sure if this helps but....hope so

Hey Rachel, the powers that rule us have spent millions to ensure that u can't do this, the only way is to buy a dvd rom player for your puter then download a pirating program that will de crypt the anti copy stuff and allow u to burn to another disc (cd or dvd). look on the net for one.Try //top-dvd-copy-software.top3-reviews.com/
I last tried this around a year ago, with around a 50% success rate.
the dvd is recorded on multi layers, so as far as I know a home dvd recorder can not encode on more than one layer so the size has to be reduced, as well as dodge the encryption.
U need a huge hard drive and a fast computer, and usually a special port called a firewire port to accept digital signals from digi video camara's, its well complex. and expensive. and illegal

Best is to byu a DVD ROM / Writer like Justin says. They're pretty cheap too. Have a look at Vegas Video (Sony) as well for video editing. Hoe it helps.

Nop your player hase dvd copy protection .
And if you have on your PC dvdburner you can read and write with it don't need second dvd on PC to copy dvd move.
to make your own move from camera you need
1 fire wire card
2 soft like Pinnakle or Adobe or Sonic to edit you video .......... but not Microsoft movie maker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3DVD burner
4 Second hard drive minimum 80gb for editing move

Yes it can: copy protection only works with the digital signal. If you buy a video capture card and plug the dvd output(I asssume you mean a dvd player not a computer dvd drive) into the capture card you'll be able to record the actual picture. This does mean there will be some loss of quality but it shouldn't be noticeable.

The way I read this is you want to copy from your DVD to your PC and use Windows Movie Maker 2...

If you have your video on the camera go this route:

Capturing Video in Windows Movie Maker 2

From a DVD player from a source that is already recorded on DVD it gets a little weirder... You have to have the proper codecs to play/capture the video sources... You say your video card has rca video in...rca video connectors generally mean Analog Signal...

Capturing Video in Windows Movie Maker from Analog Sources
