This is my first time post-processing a photograph this way... what do you think of it? Too much? Thanks!!!

I think the halo's around the horses back legs and tail are a little strong. But it is a very nice shot! I like the tones a lot.

I agree about the halos, but looks like you did a fine job here.
The high-contrast look gives it almost a drawing/painting feel, and in a way, has kind of a paperback book cover look.
Nicely done. |

This is a great idea for how to approach this shot. A few things that catch my eye...
The horse face is very undefined. That may not be caused by post processing, but it weakens the shot, to me. It's just not as clear as the muscles in the shoulder, for instance. As well, the foreground bushes seem like all the midtones have been reduced to black, rather than gray. That makes the image feel flatter than I think you would like.
