Looks like a fun time! Sad I missed it :( I love the flower and landscape pix at the beginning :)

just a shameless bump.
But I've noticed that all is quiet on the wester front. What gives? Everyone out on vacation perhaps???
As for this weekend I'm probably shooting the OC fair and the downtown Disney, yes, behind the Orange Curtain, in the Oh See.
Also waiting for the thrifty fifty from Amazon. I went for the cheapie free delivery and they are going to hold my order for 6 days to ensure that it arrives in 9days instead of just sending it. How tacky is that?
Good thing I just bought it for kicks and giggles and don't need it. I'll probably make another trip to the Aquarium with it as I found the Tamron 17-35 too short and slow for the very dark aquarium.

Nice shots Tom. Out of curiosity, do you shoot RAW or JPEG? I see a lot more potential in some of these if you maybe did some minor levels and color work.
07/14/2005 08:45:37 PM · #182
I shoot RAW, I adjust the levels and so forth, but every monitor that I use to look at the pics look different. They look best on the monitor that I used to adjust the picture.
I guess I'll blame it on monitor variation, he eh.
07/15/2005 11:12:38 PM · #183
Ahh okay - yeah, I have that problem too. I wish all monitors came with a relatively standard picture output so there would be one 'true' image.

Anyways - wanted to give everyone a heads up that the X-Games (Skateboarding, Motocross, Rollerblading, Wakeboarding, Surfing, etc) are coming to LA the first week of August. I forget if they are the 4th-6th or the 5th-7th - but somewhere in there. Should be good for photos. Not sure if I'll be able to head out with you guys, since my gf mentioned that she wants to go and probably doesn't want photography as the #1 priority :P.

>.< DOH! But photography is always #1 hehe.

I just got back from my mini vacation down in San Diego for the Comic Con. Over 500 pics to do some quick edits and a hand full of others that I will put extra detail out or into the photo. :D Had fun, but it also set me back a couple bills so.. I'll be on the sidelines for a bit.

Sorry I haven't been around much. My GMAT sapped me, and now I have to take classes in August (mostly Saturdays though). I may spread them out and take them in August & September.

Anyhow,
This Saturday, you are all invited to join me, some friends, and whoever you want to bring, to Six Flags Magic Mountain (not really for photos, just for fun).

We are going to ride rides, eat food, have a happy day as an early birthday get-together for me. We'll be getting there around 11;30am and staying til midnight (when the park closes). If you are going, call my cell. If you don't have my cell, PM me and I'll give it to you :)

I don't mean to take anyone away from Yido's get-together (posted in the forums). I am just extendting the invite to everyone in the LA DPC area :) Can't wait to do more photography in august. I am so out of practice :(

Happy early birthday Arie. Too bad I can't come to Magic Mountain, I love that place. Enjoy! If you can ride 'X' it is the best, also Goliath is a ton of fun too.
07/21/2005 11:56:03 AM · #187
I loved Goliath - but I've only been there once, and never got a chance to ride X.. I'll have to check it out next time. Sorry, can't make it to Magic Mountain on Saturday Arie.. but that's cuz it's my actual birthday that day. Happy early birthday to you though :). I hope you guys have fun though.. and I hope it's not too crowded!

Raul: That sounds cool - I wonder if my cousin was there.. I know he's part of some committee for comics, but I'm not sure what. He lives in the LA area though, so I guess it's probably something different.

Happy early b-day arie ^.^ hope you have lots of fun. I unfortunately won't be making this G2G :(.

Other than raising hell here in the forums, stating things like cheap UV filters give same optical results as expensive ones, non L lens don't make you image look like vomit, and that Canon 20D has essentially same imaging quality as the Eos 1D Mark II; I went to the AVP Volleyball tournament in Hermosa Beach Sunday. Here is the link.

oh P.S. I ordered a box of 1000 cards with "Photography by Tom Yi" with my webpage and e-mail account, so I can hand them out when I photograph some people and want them to be able to view it. I've been just writing it out on a sheet of paper for them, but I think this is neater. It cost me $12.99 at Office Depot and will take about a week.

Those business cards sound like a good idea - not that I really expect to do business.. but it would make things easier to explain and make everything seem more professional/on the 'up and up'. I like how you wanted to go with someone to avoid looking like you were just there to take pictures of the girls, and the first picture that loaded was an ass shot! lol!

No Brian, it was a shot of the uniform that the players wore. :) There were plenty of photogs, so I felt alright. Arms sore from handholding the Bigma though. Plus, the close up shots were more interesting to me than the volleyball shots. Overall it was a learning experience. Oh the USPS attempted to deliver my thrify fifty at my work on Saturday. I guess I'll get it today. A day late and a dollar short.

Welcome Elizabeth- you should come out on one of the LA DPC outings with us if you get a chance :)

Tom- I hope you enjoy the 50, it's certainly a good purchase.

Yes, welcome Elizabeth, congrats on your Nikon too.
Hey, that reminds me, did we do a photo outing in July? If not, next week a couple of guys from Yahoo LAdSLR group will be at Long Beach for the Chinese Dragon Boat race and a guy and I will head upto Malibu to take pictures of dancers at 4PM.

Let me know if anyone is interested.

Oh where have all the LA area photographers gone?

07/29/2005 03:43:54 PM · #200
Vacation :).. In my case its not intentional DOH! Plus gives me time to get the post-processing done. Don't everyone disappear now.. I might make a August G2G if these thigs get taken care of by then.
