I read this to mean that this challenge definition is basically another negative space challenge (at least if you want to get a decent score) |
I too was curious about the description as it seems very much at odds with minimalism to me.
For me minimalism is about an approach in terms of presentation, colour, style, fussiness of content even. It's not about how large the main subject is in relation to the overall frame. Not even vaguely.
Ah well...
Another challenge where the description is unecessary and causes more confusion than it should.

I think it's the title which is unecessary and causes more confusion than it should. After all, someone typed out an entire sentence to describe the challenge, & how hard is it to sum up that sentence with a very short, descriptive link. |

i have to say that i have only been doing this a short while and i am already frustrated by this challenge....i cant seem to get myself out of the macro mode...every thing else i take seems to have an empty feeelin and not feel inspiring....maybe its living in the hills of New Jersey with no open spaces....or maybe i need to stop posting and start shooting...hmmmmm |

Buzzmom....no need to be frustrated over any of this...this is an excellent forum to "spread" your wings and explore. I am new to the site and digital photography but have been exhibiting my photographic images for over thirty years...shoot what you like and how you like it. Be thankful that this site offers us the photographers a place where others can see our work...don't worry about ribbons the taking of the image and showing the final product is what is important.

I have to say that this site has helped me to look at things differently,,and I find myself looking at things where ever I am anymore,,whether driving or out in the yard,,and I will say this that I to am new and not everyone is going to like what you like,,everyone will see something different in your picture,,thats what makes us all unique.
Keep shooting and have fun with it. |

This is the most schizophrenic thread I've ever seen, LOL. Half the people seem to be leaning towards "minimalism" as the challenge topic, using a traditional, artistic sense of minimalism, and the other half are actually reading the challenge description and pointing out that the challenge, as written, has nothing to do with this traditional minimalism.
What's a boy to do? I'm so conflicted I can't even begin to get my mind around how to tackle this topic. The funny thing is, my RSP entry is "truly" minimalist.

I agree completely! With the two different views going on I don't know which avenue to take! Me being a beginner I'm even more confused!!!! I don't have a single idea of what I'm going to do! |

i think it would be safe to just do what the description says, everytime we have a challenge these forums get started and people start making up their own ideas and rules..and thats when people start voting down an image because it doesnt have hall 3 items (RPS), but i used all 3 so i would have no complaints about that.

I was thinking of this one I shot in Denver last summer. But can't get back to reshoot it.
Look at left corner if you don't get it.

heres the way i look at it
if the "subject" fills more than a forth of the entire image - it will get low vote from me - because as bearmusic points out it will not fit the challenge (as opposed to the title).
if there is no obvious "subject" (ie if yousome have to tell me where to look to 'get' the image) it will get a low vote because if it isnt obvious, how can you even claim it is the subject of the image?
obviously i will try to take my photo accordingly. |

Do people want photographic suggestions? or just ideas?
I have 100's of idea's but I am such a poor photographer I will never attempt any of them.
I wouldn't want to ruin anything for anyone or their entry but try this.
1 Part Detergent
10 Parts water
.25 Parts Karo Syrup
Just might give someone so other ideas... Like for all of you smokers...stick a soapy straw into the bubble and blow some smoke. I will not be entering nay challeneges for a while until I can get better with a camera.

Thanks....yeah actually it is flexible tile that I stuck on some old end table and dresser set. Never liked them and probrably going to junk them. Plus I really cleaned it with alot of bubbles that didn't want to stay where they were told. |

You can have the best ideas but if you can't follow through with them to put them in action then might as well not have any. |
