i have an epson stylus photo 820 that's almost 3 years old and both the black and color cartridges drink ink. but, the image quality i get printing on the premium glossy paper is unmatched. the downside is that my cost per page is close to $4.00.
since this printer is well out of warranty, i thought it would be a good time to experiment with a refill kit. i got the IMS Ink Refill System for $20.00. the results have been SPECTACULAR!!! it appears that i will be able to get about 7 refills out of the kit, which will net me a savings of a bit over $300.00.
oh, yeah, the warning...
It is worth repeating the caveats from the print manufacturers and their believers "Don't use third party inks in your printers. You may be disappointed with the results and, more important, you may damage the printer. Some printer manufacturers will not honor the warranty if they find that ink cartridges have been refilled or third party cartridges have been used.
The ink cartridges made for your printer contain ink that is specifically formulated for the print head and paper. Sure, you can get cheaper inks and they may seem to work ok but ultimately, you are going to pay the price. Don't do it!"
well, it's up to you to decide, but given my situation and the money involved, for me, this was worth the risk--mileage may vary.
