So I decided to go with something besides this photo for the Free Study but I wanted to get some opinions on it. So let me have it... Not that it matters but I'm starting to like this one better than the one I submitted of course,

The composition is a little static with the silo right dab in the center of the image. Possibly a slight rotation to straighten the horizon some more. The lighting is good. Using the silo, road, and horizon in a different compositional setup, and maybe even finding a foreground element would certainly have improved it. |

I don't think it's terrible, it's a really nice B/W conversion with rich tonal range, hard to do on extreme backlighting. I actually LIKE centered compositions on things liek this also. The horizon suggestion makes no sense to me; the silo'd vertical, I see the horizon as a little hill-line running down from left to right.
I doubt the image would have finished much above middle of the pack in this challenge though, so it's all relative. But it's not "terrible."
Robt.

That's the worst photo I've ever seen, including Cousin Ossie's photos of his lens cap. Mind you, this is a really bad monitor I'm using at the moment.
Oh, I`d better add ;-) just so you won't think I was being serious. Will have a better look later.

Beat me to it.
What an open door...
Now for the real thing:
It's not terrible. My eyes are naturally drawn to the right side of the silo, leaving too much to the left. A slightly different crop, with less on the left side would help this shot in my opinion.
But then again, what do I know? Just an opinion.

Good effort. Really looks like Nowhereville. Its not terrible, but take what you want from advise of other photographers, and learn from it. The rule of thumbs is the third rule. This photo is probably too centered if you want to go by that rule, but still has a bit of character. Keep it up! |
