Looking to pick up a Canon 70-200/2.8 L series and am considering used glass. Anyone have any input on this as well as suggestions for sites and the like that are reputable?
Thanks
Jeff

I usually don't see used copies of the 70-200 for sale at sites such as B&H. I've seen used one's in my local photography store, but they were charging more than B&H does for a new one.

I'm searching the market now for the same thing and haven't found any prices worthwhile getting a used one. You can try Craigslist.com and check your area, that way you can see it firsthand and try it before actually buying it. FredMiranda.com has a pretty good for sale market there too.
The way I look at it, unless I can get a 70-200 2.8IS for $1000 or less with warranty, I'm buying it new. Good luck! Let us know if you find one. |

I bought my Canon 100-400mm L used from Adorama and it was just what they said it was (Perfect Condition). I would buy from them again. |

there is a huge difference between the 70-200L 2.8 and the 100-400L, the 70-200 is the must have glamour lens, I have the 70-200L 2.8 IS USM and I had to spend 2months on a waiting list before it showed. |

Excellent service and prices, anything rated excellent or above is like new at KEH
They don't have a used 70-200mm 2.8 L right now but they flow through regularly.
There is a link on the left labeled Shop In-Transit which is the lenses that they are currently rating for sale... We watch that one daily and when a lens arrives that we want...we check to have an email sent when it is released for sale. The used 70-200mm 2.8L go fast on this site so it is good to watch the Shop In-transit items for those.

What is a glamour lens? I got the 100-400L for what I do and would not have much use for a 70-200L. |

if its under $100 I don't worry about a warrenty. Over, a warrenty is a must.
the lens in question. You are taking a chance on a used lens. Most photographers take care of their stuff, but as everyone has experienced, gravity is not our friend. One nick in the lens, or one good fall can misalign the elements, or damage the AF.
Warrenty should be on your mind with purchase.
good hunting.

//www.fredmiranda.com is fantastic.
Also, there is a Canadian listing a non-IS f/2.8 at $1000 CAD which is about $800 in green money. It's not my lens and I don't know the guy but if you want me to post the link let me know. I just don't want to post it in case someone jumps the offer.

I purchased the 70-200mm f/4.0 lens and I love it. But if I had to do it over again I would make sure I it had "IS". I have neck, back, and shoulders problems causing me to shake in most positions. "IS" is very important to me. Go for the one with "IS" you never know. |

Yeah, IS easily gives you two (and arguably 3) stops in shutter speed.

I've read great reviews today about the Sigma 70-200 2.8 EX APO HSM. Anyone know about this one? I know it's non-IS. I know IS is good. I wonder who has used this lens though.

I was really hoping to read "don't spend the extra money on the IS, it isn't worth it" .... you all aren't helping my budget here. ;O)

Depending on the part of the range of the lens you're in it can be just as sharp as the canon version. The build is not quite as good and there is a yellowish hue on images from it. I've heard it's a very good lens and a lot of poeple love it. Plus it comes with a 4 year warrenty. |
