Just wondering what people do when they have either entered all the challenges they can or did not enter at all. Do you sit around and think of different things to take photo's of? Play with your camera's settings? Just looking on some tips to try and get creative.

You can vote on the current challenges if you haven't already, or look back over your current votes to see if someone might deserve a bump up or down. You can go back through and pick the ones you want to comment on and try that. Or just wait for new threads to pop up and just entertain yourself that way.

Become depressed and go totally mad. Go out and run on the streets jumping in front of the traffic.

Assuming I'm of a mind to do photographic things (there are other things in my life, believe it or not) I either throw the dog in the car and go trolling for shots, or I jump into photoshop and obessess for hours discovering things and making stoopid images in the process. I generally rework my challenge entries at least half a dozen times per challenge too, some of the changes so small I can hardly see them.

Well one of the reasons I ask is I do have alot of time on my hands. I am a "disabled" former marine. Long story but I no longer work (since 2000). And I do get out about every day to take pictures but generally the same place so I find nothing new (no surprise).

Just thought maybe their was like an excercise type of thing. Like to get my mind into shape.

I have already wore my new update button out...and it is not changing anything. I am not going to enter into the rock, paper, scissors challenege. I gave my g/f my idea so she could do it.

I have re did my voting about 5 times in each of the challenges I have entered. I could vote on the other member one but I did not enter and I would feel weird about voting on soemthing I didn't submit too. I know other people vote on things they didn't enter but just a personal choice.

I am sort of like bear_music and just mess with PSP and PS and Zbrush. Fractals as well....just to kill some time.

Go back to the usual places then, but go MACRO. Go very macro. I spent an entire year taking pictures in just my own front yard, and got some wonderful stuff. It's amazing what you can discover when you zomm in and down.

One of my favorite things to do is go to a public place, like downtown (we have an AWESOME touristy downtown area), and just sit with my zoom lens and try to capture interesting pictures of people. It helps you practice getting that "eye" for what makes an interesting photograph, and keeps that steady flow of photography in your addicted veins :) Sometimes you get photographs that you are REALLY proud of too. I'm entering one like that in the people challenge. It's not the most technically perfect shot, but I just love the subject of the picture so much, I'm submitting it just to share anyway. There's never an end to interesting people to take pictures of.

I'm a relative newbie and just entered my first challenge (Tacks!). The comments from that have been extremely helpful so far, so I've gone back and experimented with some of the suggestions people made. Also, photography is sort of a secondary (but growing) interest of mine, so I spend a fair amount of time in pursuit of my primary interest (//jbpc.ucsd.edu/~jbordner/studio.jpg). Oh, and, if there's any time left over, I work. ;-) Gotta pay for my toys somehow...

Thats kewl. Yeah I have weeds right now in my yard =). I have plenty of other stuff to do.

I build balltlebots and have several inflatable ballons with r/c controls on them. Thinking of rigging 2-3 of them together to see if I can lift a camera and have a servo pop the shutter button (not a good camera thats for sure).

I also am very much into computing. I build my own computers and I have lots of parts (I have sold alot in the past 12 months). But I mod them with custom water cooling kits and the like. Working on a SN95G2 right now with a Koolance full tower water cooling kit. Hard to explain to most people who are not into it. But it is something to do.

I have lots of house work to do...and may try and just take some pictures of that.

About a year ago I was sticking my hands into red ant dens...sitrring them up and getting macro shots of the ants biting me. Yeah I am a freakand will try most things that others wouldnt.

Thanks, SandyP! :-) I actually made use of a particularly helpful suggestion from a "Tacks!" comment for that shot: white balance, which I knew about previously, but never actually played around with before.

When I went to church this morning, I took a bunch of pictures of the altar and the organ pipes. So I'm playing around with those. Helps me learn. And I haven't entered the r/p/s challenge yet, so I'm trying to figure out what I might do for that (if anything!). :)

Sounds just like what I do, well except for the dog part...

Typical workflow:
Get

Find image, Open with PS.
Play with it for an eternity in PS.
Get and click the X.
Choose to not save.

Get another cup of coffee.

Repeat as necessary, while getting a good laugh at myself.

Took your advice bear....found some spiders.

Just some sort of a funneling spider. Had a web funnel. And a Black Widow. Which was way to fast for me to get a photo 3 times it came out. I am going to try to get one of it as sunset.

Here is the one.

Not to bad....colors seem weird to me...and I hate the web..all strewn in some weeds. You would figure a spider would know where to make a home. LOL

Also I messed with some ants but all I did was pis them off. Couldn't get any to bite my hands...but stupid me I had sandals on...and barefoot :) south west rednecks watch out. They plum tore my feet up. Dang pinky toes is swollen LOL. Serves me right for mucking with them.

Yeah I did find more useful stuff to occupy my time. I found a black widow in my garage so I proceeded to clean it out and spray all the webs I could find. Took me about 2 hours but I finally got everything back in semi order. So you never know what photography will lead you too ;)

It's great to try different times of the day and different lighting situations. Best still is talking with others and learning how to enjoy the pic the best.
