Thanks scottwilson,

Hello everyone. I am making a trip to Kauai this week. Second time, but this time armed with my new Nikon D70.

Any tips I should be aware of shooting in a tropical environment to get the best photos possible?

I used my Sony Mavica last time with some decent results, but I'm expecting more this time.

Thanks!

Hawaii tends to cloud up in the afternoon, so if you want to shoot in really good light morning is normally better.

A polarizing filter can make the water look much bluer as well as the sky.

When shooting sunsets most camera will tend to over expose, I always shoot them in full manual mode and then bracket the shots a fair bit. Keep the white balance in daylight when shooting sunsets, this will help bring out the reds in it.

Most important of all, you will be in Hawaii so donĂ¢€™t forget to take time to just relax and enjoy where you are. We see a lot of visitor who are so concerned with doing everything and seeing everything that they donĂ¢€™t take time to slow down. Everything goes at a slower pace here, at least on the outer Islands, relax and enjoy this slow pace of life for a while.

Last year we did all the "touristy" stuff, and hope to just hang out more this time. The laid back atmophere is not unlike here in North Dakota... except for the view.

I did find that it's hard to take a bad photo in Kauai... just point it somewhere and shoot. Unbelievable beauty! But, we can always take a better photo, right?

Mahalo!
