This is a crop from the first photo taken with my new camera. It has only been sized down slightly - from height approximately 950 pixels to 640 - and unsharp mask used. No other editting done.

For a non-dSLR that camera's focus is pretty fast. Sadly the weather was pretty lousy for my first day out with it, so several of my photos at the long end of the zoom suffered from camera-shake despite the stabiliser. Even so, some of them were much clearer than expected. I can't wait to get a chance to do something decent with it.

Looks pretty good to me. Great expressions on the children's faces.

I know what you mean about holding it steady at the far end of the zoom range. My FZ20 feels very light in my hands after using mostly heavier cameras, and 420 is a pretty long focal length.
