i'm having way too much trouble with posting some thumbs into my profile.

i read the tutorials, apparently I'm HTML challenged. i keep getting dead links and the like.

anyone help? i'll give you a 9 vote in your next challenge! (lol)

also.. are we able to see our own forum signature in our posts? Just wanted to make sure it's there when others read it.

I'm seeing 72 shots in your profile (very nice stuff!). What problems are you having, specifically?

I don't see sigs since I have that preference turned off for myself. Make sure yours is on "My Home" "My Preferences."

You need to use code like this. Remove the spaces near the brackets, I added them so it wouldn't be translated into an image:

[ url=//dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=50362] [ img ]//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/12253/thumb/40301.jpg [ /img ][ /url ]

You need two different IDs, you need the image id of the thumbnail, as displayed in your portfolio, and then for the link, the main image id.

I get the thumbnail location by right clicking on the thumbnail in my portfolio, and selecting "copy the link location" on the right click context menu. But I use firefox, if you use explorer, that may be different.

It copied out:

//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/12253/thumb/40301.jpg

Getting the image ID is easy, just hover or click.

Ok, I'll take my 9 now ;)

You also need to be aware that challenge images are kept in a different place from portfolio images, although the image ID numbers are continuous.

Also, the number after 'images_portfolio' needs to be your user ID number. You can find that by hovering your mouse over your name earlier in this post, and looking at the link in the status bar.

I find it easiest to go to the large photo in my portfolio, right-click, choose Properties, then highlight & copy (Cntrl+C) the URL of the photo.

Then, while posting, I hit the Web Link icon and Paste my URL (Cntrl+V). Then hit the OK which brings up a second box to fill in. In that second box I paste in the same thing (Cntrl+V), but I put the IMG tag around it and change the text in it from "orig" to "thumb".

That way your post shows a thumbnail which is clickable through to your larger image.

This is the most streamlined way I've come up wiht in the few weeks I've been a member here, maybe there's a better way. I find it difficult because I'm used to straight HTML, as opposed to UBB-code, which is what this stuff with the square brackets is.

Hope this helps streamline you.

You guys seem to be making things difficult. To link an image, all you have to do is get the image ID (just hover over the image in question & the popup will show it to you), click the last icon above your message (Insert Thumbnail Link to Site Image), and put in the image code. Voila! The code for the shot below is 127804. That's all I had to remember to make it work.

You don't have to worry about ANY other URL info, unless you're linking to something outside of DPC.

He wasn't asking about putting an icon in a message. He wanted to add it to his profile page in the description area. It's quite different! (For example, see his profile now, or mine.)

Under "My Preference", on the right hand side, is a tick box that lets us choose if we want to see or hide signatures.

Be aware that some people (myself included) choose to hide them, so there is no way for you to make sure that everyone will see it.

OK. My bad. I got confused by all the talk of using code. I'll have to add some thumbs to my own profile now.

I was confused as well, but you just made posting thumbs a lot easier for me, I was using a very roundabout way before, thanks!

+ = easiest way if you have a portfolio here.

Easiest way to add thumbs to your bio is to post on a forum and copy and paste to your bio.

I have found the easiest way is to copy the picture when I'm ready to post it and put it in My Documents, then when I go to profile I use browse to get to My Documents, then click on the picture and upload it.

If uploading a number of images, dump them all in a zip file and upload the zip file. They will be automatically unzipped and put in the folder you selected. Saves a lot of hassle of having to do each image one by one.
