L lens, possibly 35-350 mm or perhaps 100-400 IS L... The camera is most likely a 1D.

Great shot. Makes you realise that photojournalism isn't only glory.

In my wartime experience combat photographers fully understood the risk of injury or death.
Today we apparently have a collection of "journalists" who expect combat troops to accept hostile fire, wounds or death, to cover these same "journalists".
Most of these same "journalists" are extremely well paid civilians who can pack up and go home at any time events get too hot for them. I am not in sympathy with any whining or bitching from these people, or their protective unions. |

Totally...furthermore, if I were a tank captain and I thought someone was shooting at me from a building, I sure as hell wouldn't put those journalists' safety over and above my own safety. I'd blow a hole in the building, too. Accept the possibility of being shot at our get out. It's a warzone! |

No one has ever said they don't understand the risk. Besides, the thread is about Canon cameras in Iraq :-)

Paganini -- the note accompanying the Canon photo expressed the "Ire of the Committee For The Protection of Journalists".
I stand by my comment.

Someone at Dpreview.com said it was a 1D and 300mm prime |

Could very well be.... I don't think it'd be a Canon 1Ds or a 10D, as the body isn't a professional body. canon 1d is the same as the 1v series....

Yes, but this thread isn't about that. If you want to rant about pro-war issues, use the RANT forum.

the 1Ds is a pro body camera as well.. Almost identical to the 1D.. Dont think a PJ would have the 1Ds as it is only 3fps compared to the much faster 1D. |

Well, we've all seen a Canon camera before. That you posted a camera with blood on it lends to discussion pertaining to the situation in which blood were made to appear on the lens, no? It's not about the hardware so much as it is about the blood.
James.

The thread opening is clearly labeled, in red, "War in Iraq".
Those of us who have experienced war are not necessarily pro-war...we recognize it may be the only way to remove a cancerous growth from the body of humanity. |

A bloody camera is a strong statement, that says different things to different people.
Since you started this thread, Paganini, and obviously have strong views about what it 'should be about', why don't you tell us what it says to you, and what your wishes are for this thread. Thanks.

I really don't care what it says to me -- I'm only sharing the photo to everyone who are fanatics with Canon hardware :) and L lenses. Wonder if the camera/lens still works, that is, is it in better shape than the photographer?
And if I did voice my opinion, i'd say "Sorry to the journalist, but this is war and risks should be expected".

I would like to see the images that card has sitting on it. I would think the photog was shooting up until he got taken out. |
