GeneralE suggested I drive to Pacific Grove in Monterey County and shoot some shots of the iceplant blooming there, it was so beautiful, made me feel so lucky to live where I live. I was hoping for some weather related shots to come out of it, but alas it was too nice and I couldn't figure out how to shoot nice weather :).
Critiques welcome!
Just figured out how to post a photo! Add it here:

The picture of the seagull is a great picture, yes there is a but. But the yellow light below his beak is real distracting. Maybe try to clone it out. That is the only critique I have.
I love all of them and you did an excellent job. Keep it up.

Thanks, Sonia, I appreciate your time and agree with the bright spot under the gulls beak. Have you ever been to the west coast? |

I like the first picture, but would use Levels to remove the blue tint (noticeable on the sand).
2nd pic is nice, but maybe a little under exposed.
3rd, I don't like the sign in it.. Would rather see just the field of flowers. Use a deep DOF to keep as much as possible in focus.
4th, needs some color adjustments but a great shot.
5th, I really like the pure white of the seagull! Agree, that you should clone out the yellow spot.
6th, I think you focused on the bottom of the rocks in the sea because the flowers are a little blurry. If the flowers are the subject, you should have focused on them first, and then raised up the camera to include the rocks and snapped the picture. However if you want both to be in focus, try using a larger apature setting (F8, etc.) Is that larger or smaller? :) I never remember that. You probably know all of this but sometimes we forget (I do anyway) while taking pictures!! This is half the reason I like to keep my camera on "Aprature Priority" so I'll remember to set it correctly for the effect I want.
Great work! |

I have been to the west coast but only as a child. I will some day go there. I have to wait for the kids to grow up. I am looking forward to it. I have been to the east coast in florida. That wasn't to bad.

Paige,
I like all your pictures. The composition is exceptionally good. Next time you might try to capture some more unusual effects in order to tell your story more effectively. Maybe a girl in a leaf green sweater walking on the beach (a complimentary color scheme) or a shot from out past the water with some wave spray between you and the ice plants. Remember that the eye goes to the X's on the overlay of a tic tac toe pattern. (A gull could be timed to fly through that point). Good luck. |

You're welcome. I like your pictures of the GG Bridge, and especially "Modes of Transportation". I've taken so many pictures of the bridge and all kinds of other photos in SF over the years, you never get tired of it! Keep up the great work. |

Paige wonderful shots. I hope you put some in your portfolio, as I'll make a few my "Favorites." My favorite is the first one, I love the tones, colors and composition. Yummy!
I remember the ice plant well. We can grow some varieties of ice plant here in Utah, but it evaporates in winter and sometimes doesn't come back the next spring.

Cris, thanks again, I've lived near the GGB for all of my life, that was the first time I had photographed it (thanks to DPC)! Iam sure it won't be the last :)
Dsidwell, you have been to Pacific Grove? Thanks for your kind comments, all of these are posted in my portfolio under Pacific Grove :)
it was your original forum post on wildflowers the led to this series, thanks.
Sage, cool, glad they inspired you to travel. |
