I thinking of getting a 24-120 (VR or older non-VR), after reading many reviews then general feedback seems to be very mixed.
The main benefit for me is range, currently I find myself continually swapping between my 18-70 and my 70-210 (which I love). I've thought about the idea of nice f2.8 mid-range zoom but to be honest I usually shoot in A or M mode and stop down to around f8 wherever I can, so the extra weight and cost is not really justified.
The main intended use is as a general walk around lens, and some basic event work (in addition I already have a 50mm f1.8 as my fast lens).
So, if anyone has this lens, or if anyone can suggest alternative good quality options that I should consider, please speak up :)
Thanks
Darren

bump
Just to add, I know there are lots of things to take into account when choosing a lens, but I'm a sucker for sharpness

I recently purchased a Tamron 24-135 SP very good lens for the price of 369 I believe. To give you an idea of the sharpness of the lens are taken with it.
I haven't had any experience with the nikon 24-120 but I can keep a steady hand at 120mm so the VR is kind of pointless at that range.
