Ok, I use white lightning strobes with a daylight balanced 5600k flash tube.

I have my camera set to Flash-1 which by the manual should be 5600k..

What I'm getting is a massive red tint until I adjust it to 5600k in nikon capture. Anyone else have this problem or do I need to have it fixed?

Does the LCD screen on the camera show it as white and the computer show it as red?

If so, I have this problem too. I've been told that the LCD screen can't be callibrated, and will never match your callibrated computer monitor.

I would take pictures in RAW and fine tune your white balance on the computer.

This may be the ideal solution, but it's not always practical for everyone. Many people don't yet have the computer processing power to shoot in RAW.

Joe- have you tried some other test shots to determine if there are other issues with white balance?

Thanks everyone!

Problem still isn't solved but the next test (results pending further investigations) is to see if I can use a "corrected" photo as a reference for a preset WB. If this doesn't work it's either batch every photo or loose the toy for a month.. ouch and wah.

I'd try shooting a white or gray card under your flash, and doing a preset WB in-camera and using that. That should be the most accurate of all ways to set the WB since it will calibrate to your particular flash unit.
