I got a letter in the mail the other day saying that won second in an international photo contest, along with the letter was a metal coin that said "winner - indernational open amateur photography competition" apon further reading I noticed that picture.com was behind this letter and coin. My question: is this for real, or is it a scam, of just what the hell is it exactally? they didn'y ask for money, just a release form for my pic, so I really don't know. If anyone can help clear the air that would be great.

If they offer to sell you a book with your "prize winning photo" then it's mostlikely a scam. |

if you don't recall entering the contest, then it is probably a scheme designed to separate you from a bit of your money, if not now, in the future... |

If you recall entering the contest, then you must read the terms and conditions. If you don´t recall reading the terms, then they must be up somewhere, a registration receipt, online or something, at the terms must be mentioned that you would receive a release form. If anything of this apply, then they are SPAMing YOU! |

It's a scam. Same company as the International Library of Poetry, or poetry.com. They're notorious.
Don't buy into it. :)

Normally people are told they are in the semi-finals and are not usually asked for a release. If you didnt enter then it is more than likely a scam, although with so many people entering I dont know why they would approach people who didnt enter. As stated above they usually get you to pay for an expensive book that your image will be in. I would make sure you read everything they sent you if you plan to sign the release. You could be signing away your rights to the image. |
