I found this rather funny:
Popular Photography's April Fools Aftermath
Incidentally, this got me started investigating the history of the original Dorothea Lange image, which I had seen before, but never knew much about. Turns out the grandson of the eponymous Migrant Mother runs a website called Migrant Grandson.

I remember seeing it -
I knew the pictures were famous, but didn't really put the whole thing together. In fact, I thought they did a good job of cleaning her up and removing the whining kids. ;-)

Interesting. I was raised in Oroville and never knew that the subject of this photo had migrated there. Oddly enough, my father migrated to Oroville from Missouri in 1950 under similar personal circumstances, extreme poverty and a broken family. I wish someone had been around to photograph him.
I might have to go find Cleo's grave sometime. |
