Originally posted by dogz: When I first started reading about the "war" of RF vs RM most pros seem to bash RF. Then I realized that some of the good RF shooters earn a half mil or more annually. So much for that. Now the big heated discussion seems to be the traditional stock avenues vs. the new "penny" stock sites, (a.k.a. shutterstock and istock). Hey, to each his own. Both of the pics mentioned in this thread were from istock and those photographers seem to be doing ok.

The PDN thread was very interesting but only a small portion of it seemed to be about RF vs RM. I was surprised to see that anybody shooting RF was making that kind of dough--but when I looked at that guy's portfolio, I was not impressed. The moderator/photo researcher had tons of useful poop there, thanks!
I did look at some of the stock discussions here, but most of them seemed like "....are you making any money at shutterstock/istock/RF site of choice" rather than the "why RF" thing I am seeking. I'm committed to two RM agencies, somewhat worried about dilution effect of RF collections, hard enough to get publishers in my specialty to pay fair rates, particularly editorially.

I know I've read something at EP about RF (or rather bashing RF) but I can't find it at the moment.

What really surprised me was when the owners/operators asked what was important, they mentioned investment for the future. Everyone get those Retirement plans started! :-) |

And the way I look at it, my RM stock portfolio *is* my annuity program, I want those images to fund my retirement some day! Of course I could use an increase in inventory; workin' on it all the time...
