I'm having trouble identifying this guy. Is he a moth or a butterfly? What's his name.  |

| I'd say it's a butterfly. It's my understanding that moths never rest with their wings folded up. By the way, I think that one's name is Simon ;-) |

Thanks, Pug-H. Actually I should add that this was the only one of a whole bunch of pictures where I was able to catch stop action on the wings. He was really moving them around rapidly. And, I should also add, he lives in northern California.

| Well, you're title's a little misleading -- a botanist identifies plants. You want an entomolgist, who studies insects. I don't know if that's one, but right now there's a huge migration of Painted Lady butterflies moving from SoCal to NorCal. |

This is a male pipevine swallowtail. Beautiful creature. |
