Well as often happens, I got the entry down to 2 shots and then picked one - I don't even remember why. It didn't do too well (39th) - probably because of technical issues (focus, dof, etc.), but wanted to get opinions on the outtake vs. the entry...

Thanks to all who commented by the way! In case anyone wondered about the lighting, it was all professional, studio setup stuff:


I had a frisbee full of water resting on top of a clip on shop light in front of my garage. At one point, I bumped the frisbee and water sloshed down into the lamp and tripped the breaker. I know...what were you thinking??! :)

I liked your shot but I feel the the soft touch and DOF is what brought your score down. Now that's just my opinion. I think that some of the voters may have felt your aperture was outside of the limits. A larger depth of field with a sharper picture would of been better IMO. And maybe the duck at a 45 deg. angle instead of straight on. I know that would of caused you to take a higher POV picture to get all five green grapes in but I think it would of been a better composition.
Just my 2 cents.
I like your lighting setup and thank you for sharing it with us.

Looks like the same professional studio setup package I use (although, with that metal lampy-thing, it looks like you bought the Deluxe Kit!)

Having said that, I worried about sounding foolish, just in case that really was professional (what do I know? a user of cardboard boxes, a blanket, and a flashlight!)

So, just in case, I headed for your profile (it was worth the trip!) I don't know what made laugh more - your self-description, your dissertation on how you comment / vote, or your photographs. You are one funny man, Ken. "Thinking Too Much", "Addicted", and your pet portrait (the portrait being the "inside" joke) were just too, too funny.
