For a long time i've had a couple of really immobile spots on my sensor - i took up using the copperhill method, expensive as it is, to try and get rid of them and to no avail (although it gets everything else off brilliantly). I'd more or less got used to them in fact, annoying as they were.

The other day i cleaned my sensor, i was in a bit of a hurry and i didn't pay attention to what bottle i picked up - i keep my eclipse right next to my lens cleaning fluid. I only realised my mistake today, shooting against a white background - there were huge greasy streaks on the sensor! I immediately realised what i must have done, and got rather worried. I cleaned my sensor immediately, using eclipse this time, and the streaks were gone in one wipe - what a relief.

But even better, when i got my lens back on, i found the persistant spots had gone completely! Entirely vanished! They must have been something not soluble in the meths in eclipse, but soluble in the isopropyl alcohol in my lens cleaning fluid (i used Jessops generic lens cleaning fluid that comes in little blue bottles)

Now, i'm not taking responsibility if you destroy your sensor by putting lens cleaning alcohol on it, but if you're desperate about some sensor spots that just wont come off and don't want to spend a fortune sending it off to canon, here's something you might want to try :)

speaking of canon sensor cleaners... how do they clean it ?
I doubt they use the copperhill method like normal humans :-P
