I think you're all wrong! I enhanced the image and photo-scientifically removed some of the grass, adjusted the levels and this clearly looks like the North American Pretzel - commonly found in Delis and Food Courts at the Mall and it has never bitten anyone that I've ever heard.

Good catch, kpriest. I had wondered if everyone here had really bought into the ruse. I think that this is indeed a tubulus knotticus. They may not bite, but if you're not careful they'll scratch you and rub salt in the wound. Since this snake was stateside it's not an issue, but the Northern European Pretzel (tubulus noeudicus) has even been known to spit Dijon mustard at it's victims from up to 6 feet away. |

Yes it looks like a Northwestern Garter Snake
or a Common Garter Snake
Both are common in WA area around Seattle.
