I am probably going to buy the new Digital Rebel XT, and I want to get the Sigma 18-125mm lens and a circular polarizer for it. For this particular lens, would I need to buy a special 'slim' polarizer, like Nikon makes, or would a standard thickness polarizer be OK? I'm not sure whether a standard thickness polarizer would cause vignetting at the wide end.

Thanks for your help!

I use a standard B&W circular polarizer on my 17-40L without vignetting at the wide end, but don´t know about the sigma lenses though..

I would recommend using the P-Series Cokin Filter System. The P-series adapter ring is bigger to avoid vignetting at short focal lengths. I use it on my kit 18-55mm lens, as the A-series Cokin system causes vignetting for 18mm focal length.

Visit //www.cokin.com/ for details. Cokin filters are measurably inexpensive, all you need is the adapter and filter holder for most filter types. Cokin have a few types of polarizing filters.

Vignetting will only occur if you start stacking the screw-on filters.
