On Sunday night I had the opporunity to take pics of a dress rehersal for a local theatre company. There was another photographer there who was shooting on film and using a flash, all my pics were done using the stage lights (I did a few test pics with my SB600 but it was not nice). I used a 50mm 1.8 for all the images (aperture priority switching between f1.8 and f2.8 when there was enough light), I also use an Olympus TCON17 as a front mounted teleconverter (so that I would not lose light) to take me to 85mm.
Any comments would be appreciated, the images can be viewed here.
Thanks in advance :)

RAW + JPEG (basic quality), although I've not even opened any of the RAW's yet, all the images are basic JPEG's direct from the camera (only resized)

Some really nice shots there! I left a comment on only one of them though, I love dramatic lighting, my weakness! :)

Thinking flash would have ruined the mood of the shots |

I love the lightning. It's just wonderfull to get this kind of photos withought the use of flash. Neuferland is right, the flash should ruinned the mood and the soft light of them.

Those look good. I often shoot the dress rehearsals for the local high school that my daughter performs in. The D70 is definitely up to the task. I haven't tried the 50mm TCON17 combo, but if in a pinch I will remember that idea. I usually stick the 70-200 VR on and use stage lighting as well. Here's a link to their Fall production. I think they turned out decent.

Cheers danny,
Your pics look pretty good to me :)
I did think about using my 70-210 (non VR) but with the lighting available I was struggling to get 1/60s @ f1.8 (ISO:800).
I think my next lens will be the 24-120 VR :)

The backstage pics are now uploaded :)

Had a minor disaster though, when I started shooting I was not going to use a flash but found that I needed ISO 1250 for any hope of a pic, as the ceiling was low I attached the flash and bounced the light off the ceiling, took loads of pics, got home and realised that I'd forgotten to turn the ISO back down to something sensible!
So all backstage images were taken at ISO 1250 with an SB600 bounced off the ceiling, I frequently changed lenses between my 50mm 1.8, 18-70 and 70-210, if by any chance anyone wants more info on a particular image just ask
As always, any comments are very much appreciated :)
