I am looking at purchasing an older version of photoshop so I can then upgrade to CS 2. I have found several sellers that have older versions for sale, but a great number of them state the following:

This software can NOT be registered, but you may upgrade to CS8 and register the upgrade saving hundreds of dollars! There is no box or manuals. - serial number included =)

Can anyone explain to me what this really means? WOULD YOU BUY IT???

Thank you for your input.

Not a chance. In order to legally upgrade, eihter the software you purchase has to be previously unregistered, or the owner needs to complete paperwork transferring the software ownership to you. I would not purchase anything but a NIB version that has not been previously registered. That is what I did a couple years ago (bought V4.0 and upgraded to 7.0 immedately, total cost about $210).
Before doing this, carefully review which versions are upgradeable to the current version. Also be aware that CS2 is coming in May.

Thank you ever so much for you input Kirbic.

I just now purchased a NIB version of photoshop that has not previously been registered. I was aware that CS2 is coming out shortly, as I just read about it this evening, hence my eagerness to purchase this product.

Is there any point in pre-ordering CS2 or should I just wait until it is available.

Thanks again

Unless you are absolutely sure that you want/need CS2 as soon as it is out, I see no need to preorder. It should be readily available when it's released. I'm not aware of any price breaks for preordering.
