I posted a WTB add in another forum and got 2 sellers. Both prices seem pretty good and I'm pretty sure i'm going to buy one of them. Are there any reasons why I shouldn't buy one?

also: If anyone is interested in the 2nd I could forward you the information :-)

come on people i've heard it's one of the nicest lens canon ever produced! Sharper than the new version even! Any owners out there?

//www.fredmiranda.com has had a couple of magic drain pipes listed for sale over the past few weeks...lenses seem to go in cycles over there so there might be more appearing soon.

I'm trying to finalize a deal for a near mint copy with the collar for around $725. The other is also near mint, no collar for $740 shipped.

Edit: the collar is available for 80 more btw.

Yes these are the 3rd and 4th copies of the drainpipe i've looked at there. I missed buying the first 2 by minutes but I have gotten the offers from the sellers in these cases and therefore i don't have to compete with other buyers.

Hmmm, seems if you can score one for $725 with the collar, you have yourself a very attractive deal. If condition is as advertised, you risk little, since the resale value will be at least what you paid.
You definitely want the collar, as I'm sure you know.

Thanks for the advice! I'd like to say that the last offer has a collar included as well... I'll post a price quote when or if I get one :-)

That's the beauty of a reasonably priced lens...it will hold its value fairly reasonably as opposed to a camera which is a loss as soon as it arrives at your door!

The major drawback for us in Canada is that any US lenses instantly cost us at least 7% in taxes (15% in Ontario) so even if we resell we won't get all of our money back unless we buy in Canada. Nasty stuff!

Luckily there are no taxes to export, just import!
