I justed googled the phrase "Extreme Action". Almost all of the top 30 references are to extreme sports, except for a couple computer/ on line gaming mentions and one article about a Scottish man going to a shooting range to shoot himself in the hand because of arthritic pain (?). //arthritis.about.com/b/a/110847.htm

It's the action that needs to be extreme, not the sport. This does not exclude X-treme sports, but it certainly does not limit the possibilities to this path either. This could be anything from a pivotal moment in a NASCAR race to a pelican impacting the water on a dive. Use your imagination.

I think another shot of a motorbike against the sky would have a strong chance of winning this one. I personally really hope this doesn't happen yet again. |

Yeah, like those crazy dudes on motocross bikes who always tend to be in ribboning pictures, or those crazy Icelandic hill-climb jeeps.

Thanks Martin. That's the most to the point post in this thread yet and I think a good take on what this challenge is meant to be.

Yep, I have to agree here - there is nothing in the definition to suggest the photo needs to involve action sports or danger - from my reading of the description the action merely has to be high-intensity or as the case may be 'fast' to satisfy the 'extreme' qualification.
Though with that said, I'm heading out tomorrow to see if I can find someone surfing 30 foot monsters in shark infested waters :). |

The dictionary I'm looking at has a few other definitions for 'Action' that lend themselves to the word 'Extreme' a bit easier...
- A movement or a series of movements.
- Manner of movement: a gearshift with smooth action.
- Habitual, vigorous activity.
- A physical change, as in mass or energy, that an object or a system undergoes.
- Behavior or conduct. Often used in the plural.
- The operating parts of a mechanism. The manner in which such parts operate.
- The state or process of acting or doing.
- Armed encounter; combat.
- Activity or excitement.
That's a lot of action! ;^)

Well, the action is there. Extreme may fit also since the fish are rather frantic instead of peaceful swimming. Nice red minor tetras and angels by the way! With a school that size must be what, a 50 gal?

My thought was to take a picture of a turtle scrambling for lettuce under candle light at 100 speed at f/35... That should give blur enough to make it look extreme.

I think that should be extreme enough. |
