I've seen alot of people with this website in their signature. Is it actually worth my time to play with? How much do you guys make off of it?

It'll be more worth it (to me) if you use my link : )

People with hundreds of photos on line seem to be making on the order of $20-100 per month. People like myself, with only about 50 photos, are making more like $4-5.

Joe, there has been much debate about shutterstock.
If you go up to "community", then to "forums", you will find a search feature. That might help you find everything you wanted to know about it, but were afraid to ask (and THEN some!).

I've been sending a few in since November, and have earned around $200.00. Most of my shots are while just messing around. Stock buyers will buy amazingly any type of shot. Through time it adds up. If ya send in a bunch, many folks do, there is some nice money to be made. Not a living, but some extra. Try it ya might make a little or alot.

It may pay OK if you have a lot of good stock photos. I don't think it is worth going and taking pictures just for Shutterstock.

I don't have many pictures so I only made $25 in 4 months.

I think you'd be better off saving your photos for alamy or another stock agency that isn't going to pay you $.20 a photo.

There are indeed many stock sites out there, some of them right-managed (which pay many times more/use). If you are at all interested in doing stock, more research (including the forums here) would be indicated to see which approach suits you.

i yanked all 12(so many i know) of my photos off shutterstock because some of them are pretty good shots I may be able to sell for far more than 20 cents or even 20$ one day, so I don't want them devalued.

In my opnion the payout for those sites is hardly worth the effort. If you spent as much time in editing a few select shots and preparing them for an actual sale display as opposed to editing, labeling, and uploading the hundreds of photos you would need to make any money on shutterstock, it makes more sense to sell less photos for more money, to people who may appreciate them more.

How many options are out there? Could somebody give a rough list of the sites?

I have only submitted one photo to Shutterstock...and I'm about to pull it out. It was sent in on 3-30-05 and still has not gotten approved. I think it is a waste of my time and photos to sit around a week for approval just to "possibly" make .20 cents! I also think it will take a good while to make the minimum $75.00 for payout. To me personally...not worth the trouble.

$67.00 in a couple of months. Not bad for a couple of 3 megapixel cameras. I don't expect to make more then $5,000 from my regular job this year, so this is not bad and will help out.

Folks that can afford the bigger, cooler cameras may think that a couple of cents per picture is a total sham, but note that some of the higher priced stock sites require a huge file that some of the lower priced camera can't produce. Bigger investment = higher pay off. So it really depends on you.
