Any idea's on how to stop people from stealing your online photos. I am sure that someone is copying and pasting my images for themselves without credit to me. My site counter can provide IP addresses sometimes, and how long someone has being viewing, etc.
My site: My Photoblog Any way to check if this is being done and by who? Thanks. |

put a copyright symbol on EVERY Photo you have. That way, you have more say in court if it goes that far. If someone just borrows your photo, techincally there's not much you can do except request it be taken down.
If they however, take your image, remove your copyright and use it...then you can do something about it.

not much you can do with the IP basically.
You can only protect your photos by either watermark them with something visible on the photo or use other techniques like flash display of them that do not allow the "save photo".
But then people find ways around that by print-screen and then saving the photo...

Can you give us examples of the said photos being used by others?

What evidence are you seeing that someone is copying and pasting your images?

My site address, is on the the first feed.
Not sure, only a hunch, based on the the length of time some one has spent on my site. Some are only minutes, others up to one hour. Then again I can't really be sure what is going on. Just paranoid as well.

yeah, i think you're just paranoid
__EDIT__
a simple fix would be to disable right click.

A few quesitons. First your have some great looking photos there. What is the reason for your site? Are you trying to sell prints? If you are you might want to put them on a site like DCPrints where tehy will be protected. The only other way that I know is to embed your copyright all over the photo, which will make it worthless to download. I would not put up such a large file either. It is very difficult to stop theft, so you have to do what you can to protect yourself. |

Disabling right click won't work. The image is already on the person's hard drive.
Those time-spent stats can be misleading. If I go to your home page, then go to lunch without closing my browser, and surf other areas of your site for 5 minutes when I get back, your counter may record my visit as being 65 minutes, when it's really only 5. |

You can embed a watermark using Photoshop (Digimarc plug-in). Or make your own watermark..
There's isn't really an effective method..
- no right click
- copyright text
all can be exploited.
I guess the best thing is for your photos to be as popular that when someone notices it from another source they would point it out to you. |

maybe people just visit your site, and then walk away from their computer, therefore sitting on your webpage for hours.

There are programs online that can get into a site and download all photos on it.. one is called PicaLoader. You can specify what size images to download, minimum and maximum sizes, etc... You can never really protect everything except by watermarking someway. Good luck!

This person had one of my pics (voted 4.2) selected as a fave. They've never submitted any pics, yet have over 100 faves and lots of fave pics. They're either a great fan of pics or they've been copying them...... [thumb]//www.dpchallenge.com/profile.php?USER_ID=33009[/thumb]

I agree with most people. When I am at work I leave my browser open on DPChallenge. All day. I am maybe at my desk 1/2 the day. So the numbers don't relly mean they are on your website that long. But if you are worried about it then put a copyright at the bottom or a watermark on your photos and then it will hold up in court if you need it to. Which reminds me I need to do that. Or you can do like I done over at smugmug.com. The galleries thaqt everyone can see I chode not printable and not original. So if they will be less likely to steal a low resolution photo.

firefox has a built in function to save all media on the page without right clicking by using the webdeveloper bar so disabling print screen, right clicking, etc, doesnt work. plus u could just look at the page's source code and directly find the photos hosting website and take it easily.
