This probably sounds silly, but I actually haven't flown since 1991, and I'm flying to the East Coast in May, so I need to know:

Will the x-ray machine affect the memory card in my new digital camera in any way?

I'm also taking my cell phone. Is there anything magnetic inside of it that shouldn't go through the x-ray machine?

I learned the hard way about putting film through the x-ray machine over a decade ago, and I don't want to take any chances now, so I'd rather ask a stupid question than DO something stupid like not have something hand-inspected that should be.

Thanks for your help.

That's one of the beauties of digital, no problemo with the x-rays! As for the cell, I'm sure that is safe also.

I agree, you should not experience any problems with digital cameras, media, and cellular telephones from the new X-Ray machines.

I travel every month on business and typically pass through the security scanning procedures 120 to 150 times a year. Yesterday, I went through 3 times and tomorrow I go again. Even with the newest L3 Communications scanners, I have not experienced any equipment complications, other then the significant latency of the security screening process itself, which is required for all of our security.

The new machines will definitely fog your film, so be forewarned. Give yourself lots of time, go with a smile and a happy attitude, and most of all, enjoy your trip!
