F-9 would give you greater depth of field (more things in your photo be in focus), where as f-2 is good for 2 things: lower light and less depth of field (less things in focus making your subject stand out better). |

I can't believe how difficult it is to find a rubber ducky! haha. I went to Target and couldn't find one so I went to Toys R' Us and found only 1 there... I was about to give up on this challenge. Then of course, I forgot to pick up grapes =) so now I have to make another trip out. |

Here's a great joke I make up for my kids and it really made them laugh:
Knock, knock,
Who's there?
Duck.
Duck, who?
(while they're saying that, lightly slap them on the back of the head and say, "Well, I said duck!" |

Question about water... I know it is required to be in the photograph, does colored water count? I know water is normally portrayed as either clear or blue, but what if I add yellow or red coloring to it, does that still count? |

NotReuter's One Hour Ago:
Two young entreupeneurs, known only as D & L, bought all the stock in Rubber Ducks today, shortly before the announcement of a photographic contest involving Rubber Ducks. Anoymous sources stated there were also rumors of the 2 entreupeneurs attempting to buy out the grape market, but Ernest & Julio Gallo held fast to their stock thus preventing a total hostile take-over in the grape commodities.
One local stock analyst stated "Should it be found that these two individuals were involved in a conspiracy of any kind, they could easily be the next Martha Stewarts". |

NotReuter's One Hour Ago:
Two young entreupeneurs, known only as D & L, were admitted into a local hospital for what was described as severe abdominal and facial pains this morning. Local sources report they were involved in a stock buyout that took the Rubber Duck market by storm, more than quadrupling the current market value.
Sources at the local hosital could only say these two entreupeneurs were having severe bouts of hysterical laughter causing the malady. Between moments of brief composure, the two were overheard mumbling incoherently, with only a few words being recognizable such as "DPC" and "Suckers." County Mental Health was notified. |

I don't think that my apperature will go up to F6. I usually just check if after I take a picture and the highest I've seen it is F5.
does anyone know about olympus cameras? |

According to Steve's Digicam review, you won't be able to participate:
Aperture Range F3.1 W / F5.2 T

Before you borrow that Nikon Coolpix you might want to check the specs on it here: DPReview Nikon Page
Some of them don't stop down as far as f/6.
If you're confused about aperatures you might want to look at this page:
DPReview Overly complicated explanation of aperature value. (Hint: Just look a the graphics.)

Well, if anything this challenge forced me to learn about apperatures. I guess it was worth the price of a rubber ducky. |

And (i hope i don't regret saying this) we all need to remember that failure to meet the challenge description is NOT grounds for DQ.... |

Normally that's true, but it's different for this challenge. That's no problem for me, because my entry is pretty safe at F8.0, but I do think allowances should be made for people whose cameras can't meet the challenge.

You've got 6 more hours. Hurry and get a dSLR at your local store. You won't regret it, and you've just got yourself a perfect excuse to buy it.

I don't believe that it is different for this challenge. The description simply says that "Failure to meet the challenge should result in DQ." "Should" is not "will."
Failure to meet the challenge could simply mean that you didn't enter it--the implication being that everyone should enter, of course.
For clarification on should:
I should brush my teeth after every meal...but I might not.
Drivers should not talk on hand-held cell phones while they drive (at least in my State)...but they do.
You should use the proscribed f-stops for the challenge, your background should be blue, there should be a rubber ducky in the picture, etc...and if someone enters a red fish against a yellow backdrop and opens their lens to f/2.8 to create marvelous bokeh???? Then what? |
