I'm planning to get a scanner soon. It will be used to scan photos (not negs or slides) and documents.
Any recommendations out there?

-If you can, get one which will take a legal-sized sheet.
-Optical resolution should be at least 2000 dpi
-For photos, Dynamic Range should be as high as possible -- I think about 3.4 - 3.8 is probably a good target ...
Check some graphic arts magazines for reviews, and you can go to the library and check the latest (unbiased) review in Consumer Reports.

Epson Perfection Photo scanners are the best.
I use an Epson Perfection 2400 Photo (for a magazine) and am very happy with the results and usability of the software. Switch of the USM though, that should only be done after all the other editing.
