Rust...it is not sand, but could be a powder...

I have some beach ideas..but live no where near a beach. Hmm...I saw a landscaping place with a chair and a sign out front "Beach Sand for Sale" - i was laughing at that earlier today, but not now! Here comes the fool to buy beach sand!

I hope this doesn't turn into take pictures of drugs week. Blah.

Well, what I HOPE is that peopel aren't gonna take this description and ignore the "such as" component:

Take a photograph in which your subject is granular, such as powder, sand, salt or dust.

These are just four of a multitude of possibilities. Granualrity is everywhere about us. And it can definitely be a surface texture, such as rust, as the Prof pointed out, or eroded rock surfaces, especially sandstone-type rocks, sedimentary rocks.

It's gonna be interesting to see how many "too much noise" comments come out of this challenge :-)

The irony....

I didn't have the slightest idea for such a shot. Just thought the detail level of dust/grains would be interesting. So when I saw it became a challenge I was jazzed but sat there for several minutes thinking "what the heck am i going to do"...

*lol*

Ya...lame I know...come up with an idea for a challenge and have no idea for submission. Thankfully. Around 12:30 last night I finally got an idea that I think will be nifty.

so does this challenge mean we're going to see a lot of flower macros with pollen on them?

Heck, I could do a pollen macro on my car right about now....

Yes...but I think they will do poorly unless surprisingly detailed.

I really wonder if we will see some "micro" photography (anyone got a microscope that allows the mounting of a digital camera?).

Also, the whole "grind up your past failed challenges" does carry a certain grandiose pleasure within it - does it not?

Basically, DSLR users could take a shot of anything, since they constantly seem to have dust on their sensors :) Just kidding...

Hey gloda....

That's why I spent a few minutes thinking about how to remedy the situation. And I think I came up with a viable semi-economical solution.

Read this thread for idea to solve DSLR dust problems...

We have one in the lab I work in, which is kindof nifty, but I'm not sure you could get a great artistic shot out of it. It's fine for illustrating scientific concepts, but you can only shoot the subject straight on, there's really no good way to capture things from an interesting angle.

kearock....

you're forgetting that many portraits are done "straight shot" and you can always find interesting subjects of grains of sand for example. Items with strange surfaces.

I have faith in the talent here. Think about the amazing pics that contained a rubber duck and five grapes!
"Granular" might sound boring, but there will still be many fantastic shots.

i hope so, that apple challenge looks like a wasted disaster..i only voted 20% on the high ones in that challenge so i wouldnt be given out a bunch of low scores. dont like to do it that way but its better than given out 4's everywhere.

I think it'll be intriguing....

Took me a little thought but I think I came up with an intriguing idea...
