Hi,
I am thinking the unthinkable and considering getting a camera from the states. The main thing that worried me is the lack of warranty, but I've noticed a few places offering a Mack Warranty with any work being done at canon UK.
basically I could get a 20D from the US for almost the same price as a 350D here, or save about 150pounds off a 350D. So you can see why I'm tempted! Just want to do my homework first as it were!

Searching this & other forums, people seem reasonably happy with Mack warrantys BUT I havent seen anyone in the UK mention them. Are they not worth the paper they are written on over here in Blighty?

Thanks in advance for any help/guidance!
Cheers

I have bought all my cameras from the USA and some of my lenses and other stuff, I never worry about warranty, if the camera or lens brakes down then in 99% of the times a camera comes in ti the shop broken it´s from something other then a warranty issue, like water damage, sensor dust, drop damage or something other, the warranty only covers factory faults, so when you buy from a store like BH in NY then test the camera when you get it very well, you have a few days to return it if it´s faulty, if it´s ok then get it insured, I´ve gone through a few canon cameras in my time, use them and sell them to upgrade, all the canon cameras that I´ve bought the last 15 years are still up and running without a single problem with any of them.

I have an insurance for all my cameragear and laptop worth about £10.000 and the insurance costs me about £200 pr year, and I´m covered for everything except war damage, why bother with the warranty ?

go for the 20D, BHphotovideo.com is an excellent shop to do buisness with, very reliable and honorable, one of my batterycharger that I bought from them was faulty when I got it, so I wrote then an email and they refunded it imediatly without any problems.

If you buy from USA then get the "imported" or "grey" it´s cheaper and if you´re lucky then you´ll get the european model with UK warranty :)

Cheers dood, you're a star!

Thats really good advice to check it then insure it. Looking at whats covered by the warranty, its not a lot! Thank you so much, I'm definately going to give it some serious consideration, after all...What are credit cards for!
