Hi fellow DPCers
I'm looking for a complete guide to photography lighting. Something that'll have various setup examples for portrait, still life, outdoor, macro, studio, ect...
Thx!!

The thing is - any book that purports to cover EVERYTHING doesn't cover ANYTHING in any depth that would help you.
I suggest a portrait/studio lighting book AND an outdoor/location book. I don't know any good names, just that if you find one that does everything, it probably won't do it well.

Yannick, the ultimate lighting book is the one that teaches you how light behaves, how it interacts with your subjects and surroundings. By learning and knowing about these basics you can control the light as you wish. This book is Light - Science and Magic: An introduction to Photographic lighting.
Highly recommended, it's not just a book about recipes for lighting different situations, it actually teaches you the behaviour of light. You can then do whatever you want.

You know what they say: "Give the man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he'll eat forever."
Good advice Nick. I'll look up that book next time I'm at Indigo.

Go here //www.photo-control.com/norman/catalog.htm and get their catalog. I am not 100% sure if the new catalog has all the info but the one I have does. It is not everything yoiu are looking for, but it does show how different reflectors effect the photos, ie quality of light. They have samples tryig to sell their studio lighting. |
