I run a 7600, and wouldn't ask for much more (unless a better one comes out) I'm pretty sure both printers use the same tech. The prints rival B/W silver or cibachrome prints and the medium can be much more archival then both.
There are down sides. The printer needs a RIP to run properly. It will run without it, but not the way Epson claims. (they change their story after you have bought one and try to sell you a $1,200 RIP.) My printer works fine, but I can not stack print jobs. I need to turn off the printer after every print and re-start it before the next. I talked to tech support and they told me to use a rip. The dealer recomended Firey RIP which runs about $3,000, but told me they could probably hook me up with a less expensive RIP for about $1,200.
I don't know if the same issue applies to the 4000, but it very well may.
Another down side is that it regularly cleans the nozzles and squirts your very expensive ink into a maintenance tank. That is not the bad part. The maintenace tank has a chip to tell the printer when it is full (but really only half full), but you can't just simply empty the tank. You have to buy a new one each time at $35 a pop.
I also don't know if this applies to the 4000, but I would think it would.
Hope this helps.
