I just got a call from John Robert Powers asking about one of my models. They had contacted the mother of my best 9 year old model about bringing her in for auditions. The girl's mother gave them my phone number and told them if it was OK with me she would say yes.

I did a quick web search while I was talking to the JRP rep and came back with three pages of "John Robert Powers scam".

Apparently they tell the client there is no charge then later hit the parents for a portfolio fee that could exceed $1000 and a workshop fee that could go well over $5000.

Stay away from them. I have had two friends fall for it.

I work in the same building with these guys. Please don't blow it up!

I'm not going to blow up anything - today.

These people play on the vanities of the uninformed. Don't let your vanity outway your common sense and you minimize any damage these people are capable of. I really didn't want anyone hijackiing my favorite model, but the oppinion I gave her mother was honest. I would really want the best for the girl regardless of my concerns and had this been a legit deal I would have recomended it without hesitation.

This one is a natural. I look forward to working with her for many years to come.

I just read through all the complaints in the link, WOW. are people in USA really so naive or desperate to be famous that they fall for this bullshit ? scams like this would never work here in Iceland, people would just laugh at someone trying this.. well we are a small nation, doesn´t take much to be famous here, and doesn´t cost a dime :)

You should watch Tornatore's movie The Star Maker . This type of scam has been going on since the first movies were made in Hollywood. Some are much more sinister then mere theft of money.
