Does anyone know how to force/change/increase the firing strength of the on-camera flash? I've recently taken a lot of "frozen" water shots, but many just didn't come out bright enough. I found that my best results occurred with ISO 400, f/11, 1/200, but still the overall brightness seemed a bit random from shot to shot.

Also, DoF wasn't quite as wide as I would have liked but stopping down just made all the shots dimmer, even the bright ones.

Any tips?

i think u need to use the russian firmware hack to be able to chace the Flash Exposure Compensation on the 300D. it'll void your warranty but if your really want the FEC option, then do some searching in the forums for a link to the hack.

Ok, so I at least figured out a way around not knowing how to adjust the flash strength.

By prefocusing then making the room completely dark before shooting, I found the flash to be quite a bit brighter - it seemed brighter and the recharge time was much longer - not to mention the utterly dazzling effect on your eyes. Then, I held my hand over the flash while hitting the flash exposure lock (FEL) button - forcing the cam to meter wrong and brighter shots still.

That last technique only seemed to help higher ISO shots (800-1600) as I guess the flash was maxed out when metering for IS0 400 at f/22. I haven't looked at any yet, but some of the histograms looked pretty good in the "lab." I even got some f/32 shots at 1600 with good looking histos.

Thanks, I was afraid that might be the answer to having the camera do it automatically. It's really irritating because you can see a flash exposure icon when in M mode, but there doesn't seem to be a way to adjust it.
