Alright everyone, I've recieved my first order from mpix.com, and the prints are amazing. Until now, I've used Winkflash. The differences? For me, just enough to justify the difference in price. Thicker paper (less flimsey than Fuji Crystal Archive), a deeper matte (feels more professional), and "DO NOT COPY" on the back, something that makes me feel a bit more secure.

Both printers print and ship within 24 hours of placing the order. I like the uploading in-browser application in mpix better, but I don't like the size/quanitity selector near as much (requires going to a seperate page for each picture). Winkflash lets you type in the quantity next to the size right in the shopping cart. But then, Mpix has many many more sizes and options for each picture than Winkflash.

Now for prices. Mpix is $0.29 for 4x6, while Winkflash is a measly $0.16. Here's the shocker, mpix's 5x7's are $0.99 when Winkflash's are only $0.29. 8x10's are $1.99 both places, though. The worst part: Mpix's shipping. It's nearly $5.00 per order for me, forcing me to order in bulk as best I can. Winkflash is $1 flat-rate, and in the summer they have FREE SHIPPING.

For me, I use mpix in my portfolios, but that's because my parents pay for those! For business, I guess it depends on whether the client wants maximum quality or slightly less for a lot cheaper.

Actually, if you use "Purchase Photos" (or something like that) near the top right - there's a list "add photos", "delete photos", "delete portfolio", etc... - it wil take you to an order page where there are thumbs of all of your images. Then you just select the sizes and quantities from the dropdown box. When I upload photos I upload specific sizes - 5x7, 8x10, 8x12, etc - then I select all the 5x7's and hit "Purchase Photos". Then I can use the dropdown box to select 2 5x7's of each, or whatever. If there happens to be one or two that I only want one copy of I can change them individually. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the comparisons. I've been using MPix and have been very pleased with their product and service. Interesting comparison though.

Why not try WF for free. Offer should still be in effect.

Can anyone out there speak about Mpix's various print media...I'm really interested in the metallic paper and canvas prints. How good is the quality and is it worth the $60 for a 20x30 frame stretched canvas print? Also does their B&W paper really make B&W prints that rival high quality B&W Film prints? So far, they look like they may be my next printer but I'd like to hear from experienced DPCers
