To everyone that still have patience to discuss some photos:
Today I went out to try my new Nikon Nikkor 70-300mm f4-5.6D ED. I went to Cape Espichel here a lot of seagull like ro ride the strong wind. Came home with some shoots.
Here's one I was training dodging and burning. Any commens wat went wrong and what to correct would ber appreciated. The first image is the one I burned and dodged and the second is straight from the camera. In the first I did a quick mask to copy the seagull and then sharpened it a bit (not that I know very well how to use the unsharp tool) and brighten it a bit. Then I did the dodge and burning.
 
Any comments?

Couple things to ponder...
- Work with the detail that's there, not against it. There is plenty of gradation in the clouds already on this shot.
- Use curves first, then only a touch of burning or dodging as needed. Here's a quick edit...
Most of the change from the original is a simple unmasked curves adjustment, followed by just a little burning across the top and around the lighter area just above the bird.

Thank's kirbic. I often forget to use curves to achive my objective. Got to be more focus.
