I know it's not a great shot in any way, but is anything one can do to minimize flare with this lens?
Edit: Here's a similar shot @ 70mm.

I have a Canon UV HAZE (Sharp Cut) filter that I keep on all the time to protect the front element. Could it be the culprit? That never even occured to me.

Yes, the ET-86 that came with the lens.

It's quite possible that it is contributing; as to how much, only a bit of testing will reveal that. I don't have a valid comparison, I don't use a UV filter for protection on mine, just the hood.
