Hi,
I'm seriously considering getting an SLR, i'm just reaching the point where there are things i' like to try, but my present camera (which i do love) cant handle.
I'm thinking of the 350D (i'd like the 20D...but a bit too pricey), i've had a little play with it in the shops, size wasnt really an issue for me, but i thought it felt a bit too plasticy. but its what it produces really.
ANYWAY, i've found this deal: 350d + 18-55 + 55-200 + grip
Which i thought was really competitive. I'd just like to know if you guys think its worth it. I know the lenses arent the best but might do to get me started. This plus a 1gb Memory card is my budget! But seeing as i can get the body only for about £600, would it be better to get that and one quality lens (probably second hand), and possible save a couple of pounds.
As for what i like to shot...Anything & everything at the moment!
Thanks in advance for any help/guidance! I'm in a bit of a quandry about it all!

Hi I just got mine a week ago. At the time I got the 18-55 with the kit, the 50mm f1.8, and a used 70-300. I found the 18-55 didn't have the reach and the 70-300 was too much (without changing the lens every 20 feet). I went back and bought the 55-200 as a walking around lens. With the 1.6 factor the 200 becomes like a 320mm (almost like a 10x on a prosumer). My dealer has a grip package (grip, extra battery, Cannon bag - that fits the gripped camera) which I also got. I'm very happy with the camera. With the speed (start-up, focus, cycle time) it is a new world of photography. I also got UV filters for all the lens which I put on in the store so that I'm never touching the lens.
P.S. Black is the way to go.

Cheers doods! (thanks for the bump!)
I'd like the grip, its quite expensive on its own but i could do without it I guess.
The thing with the 18-55 its that its quite wide, and all the other wide angle lenses are pretty pricey.
If i didnt go for the kit, I'd look at getting:
50mm F1.8
28mm 105mm as a walk around
possibly the 70 300 (but thats me being greedy!) |

Just go mine... I went a little different route, well kind of.
Got the Black 350D but without the kit lens.
- Instead of the 18-55 Kit Lense I got the Sigma 18-125mm (I figured adding the few buck saved from the kit lens this lens is $269US and to me that's a good enough all purpose lens for me, why get the kit lens if you have to change the lens all the time, in time this will be replaced but I think it's a great starter).
- 50mm f1.8 II (what a great lens for the price)
- Extra battery/grip (a must)
- 105mm f2.8 Macro Sigma is next on the list
but all things will come with time... so one lens at a time ;-)
EDIT: wrong link

ON my 300D I skipped the kit lens, got a Tamron 28-80 3.5-5.6. Very inexpensive but gets decent reviews. I also got the 50mm 1.8. A 70-300 is next on the list, and then a wide angle lens i suppose, then a 28-105 or so. All depends on one's budget - i got my body and 2 lenses for $825 delivered.
The 350D is worth the $200 or so more it costs.
The plasicky 'feel' goes away as you get used to it.
