After reading his review, I came away thinking that the D70 is not too far off from the D2X. Don't you agree? |

I think it depends on the application. I think in nature photography like in the review, or portraits the image quality is the same. However if you would compare them in an action sports environment, the D2X will prevail because it's features (i.e. faster focusing, 5 frames/sec).
I'm very happy with my D70, but would love to have the D2X. Is it worth $4000 more? I'm not sure about that.
Edit: Actually meant to say "Is it worth $4000 more. Corrected that.

Yes, the Nikon D2X street retail price, sells at $5,000 for the body.
You can rent it at some larger camera stores for $300.00 per day or $900 per week, if you have money to burn.
Otherwise wait 6 months and save some money, when Nikon announces their other new bodies later in the year. |

One more thing about higher price camera's.
1. They are almost always "status symbols".
2. Lower price DSLR's are available for nearly the same features.
3. I have both Canon 20D and Nikon D70. The Nikon D70 images are better
quality, but the Canon 20D is much faster, at 5 fps. That is a total of
over $3500 invested, and I have two great camera's.
4. With the latest Photoshop CS and other image editors, plugin's, etc, you can mimick the best camera's in the world.
5. Lastly, you have to take the best photo you can to be the best photographer. |

Sorry, I left out worth. I meant, is it really worth $4000 more. :)

Wrong. Well, mimick maybe, but you are not coming close in enlarged image quality to a camera like the 1Ds or the 1Ds Mk II with a 20D.
