So, I finally had a chance to set everything up today and do some testing with my new lights. First time I've ever used studio lights, so there is a lot to learn.
Here's a couple of my son goofing around while I was doing my testing.
I did a few mmore with both of the kids, but I realized I really needed to add some fill light. Learned a lot in 15 minutes of shooting. Will have to go back at it and try some more later.
Feel free to leave your comments. Thanks

What did you get? Any acccessories (soft box, etc)?
The eyes are great. The second one seems soft around the belly.
Looks pretty good!
Maybe for xmas...

Got 2 B800s with stands, 2- 42" brollies (poorman's softbox). Also ordered from someone else a 9'x9' background stand and a 9'x12' muslin.

Got my son dressed while my daughter was napping and tried a few more. I think I did a better job with the fill lighting this time.
Comments/critiques are always welcome.

The second batch look great, #2 looks a little soft on focus. #3 is really sharp and the pose in #4 is 'The Thinker Jnr'.
What lens did you use, and what post processing?
That backdrop is just right for portraits, seems to absorb just the right amount of light. Keep posting them, and well done for a first attempt with those Aliens...been telling people for years that were aliens on earth!!

I like the second batch of pics too. The first and second pics of the set are really nice. The last one would of been good for the bored challenge..:). Kids are quite patient with our hobbies, my little boy has started to put his hands over his face and says no more..lol. They are great shots, you must be really pleased with your first attempts, they can only get better.good luck

Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8. Not much post, just adjusted the color balance to remove a little red, and slight levels & contrast adjustments.

I'm certainly no expert, but I think you did a very good job with the lighting Chris. However, IMHO the skin tones have way too much red in them. I produced very similar results in the senior photos that I did for a friend's daughter. I adjusted the skin tones to where I thought they looked good, but the girl's mother said they looked much too red. I looked around and found this smugmug article which helped a lot. After editing the skin tones using the technique described in the article, they loved the photos. Here's the article: Skin Tones

Thanks Mick, I actually adjusted a lot of the red out. I went a little further on others and they seemed to yellow for me. I've bookmarked that article so I can read through it later.
Thanks for the comments so far everybody.
