I didn't want to hijack Frederico's other plane photo thread, but I did want to share this one with you guys. Believe me this photo does NOT do the scene justice. We were descending into Tokyo at about 7am, and I just happened to open the blinds (we'd been flying in the dark for 7 hours) to see what was out there. We were at about 2000M/6000 feet (love those little monitors on Singapore Airlines:)). The sun was just coming up, so it was just catching the tops of the clouds. Since we were just above the clouds, we could actually see Fuji poking it's head out through the clouds; the really cool thing was that we could also see a silhouetted cityscape Tokyo at the same time below the clouds.

again - the photo is ok, but nowhere near as cool as the actual sight.

Okay Pedro, so you want to rub it in!! It's an OK photo...yeah.

How many people get a sight like that? Don't knock it, it is a good shot and captured that moment. You will look back on it in the future and remember that you could see the clouds, Mt Fuji and the cityscape!

It's as cool as I will see the view. I like it a lot.

not sure if i can make it print worthy or not, given that it was shot through 2 panes of frosty airplane window (it was snowing in Tokyo that morning). I'll see if i can work it up when I get home.

@formerlee; Seriously Steve, this isn't some form of mock-humility...I like the photo (obviously or I wouldn't have posted it :)) but it's nowhere near as magnificent as the scene was. I mean...I was virtually in a state of suspended animation for the first 15 seconds or so. I almost missed the photo as we banked in towards the airport.

That's certainly a great image. I've taken photos of Mt Fuji from directly above, looking into the camera (on domestice flights). That was in the days before digital cameras, though.

Hi Saurabh,

here's a wallpaper sized version of it. still not print-quality, but big enough for a wallpaper on a 1280pix wide monitor. hope this is what you were after.

According to properties, that's a 640-pixel version Pedro. You link the wrong one?

Beautiful shot, man...

no...i just noticed that DPC resizes to 640 no matter what. I'll put it up on my site in 2 mins...brb

again, here's the resized version. just right click the link and 'save as', or left click it and it will open up and you can save from there.

Thanks for the comments. really appreciate them.

Gday Pedro,

Thanks for being such a good sport about the wallpaper request. Refreshing to see such a trusting attitude in this distrustful world (now if I can just interpolate it sufficiently I should be able to make a killing at the local markets :P).

Hey more power to ya if you can make a 180KB image printable. Of course...I still have the 2MB version lying around here somewhere :) If I can't make it DPC Print-worthy I'll make the full-res file available. I'll know by the end of this weekend I'm sure :)

I'm not so sure the buildings are in Tokyo. They're more likely to be in Chiba, with Tokyo Bay the body of water behind them.
